PEPFAR and CDC through ICAP have committed over Tsh1.9 billion to support Bugando Medical Center (BMC) molecular laboratory. CDC Country Director, Dr. Mahesh Swaminathan stated this during the handling over event of the HIV Drug Resistance Laboratory at BMC in Mwanza Region. The event was attended by Mwanza’s RC, US Congressional Staff Delegation, CDC Washington Directors, CDC Tanzania, ICAP, Ministry of Health and other members of the regional health management team. Dr. Swaminathan said for more than 15 years PEPFAR through CDC has supported Tanzania in strengthening laboratory systems. He said that through the partnership BMC has become instrumental in advanced technology that has transformed the laboratory into a sustainable self-operating entity delivering high quality services across more than eight regions and extending services to neighboring countries like DRC and Burundi.
