Tanzania and Korea Sign Loan for Binguni Referral Hospital

Tanzania and South Korea have signed a 422.16 billion Tanzanian shillings soft loan agreement to construct the Binguni Referral Hospital in Zanzibar. This significant milestone was achieved during President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s official visit to Korea in May 2024.

The Binguni Referral Hospital project will feature four specialized units dedicated to maternal and child health, a state-of-the-art training center, staff accommodations, and advanced medical equipment. The facility aims to improve healthcare access for Zanzibar residents and reduce mortality rates.

Dr. Saada Mkuya Salum, Minister of State for the President’s Office of Finance and Planning in Zanzibar, expressed optimism about the positive impact of the hospital on the region. She emphasized that the project will enhance healthcare access, reduce mortality rates, and revolutionize health education programs.

The partnership between Tanzania and South Korea demonstrates their shared commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure and services in Zanzibar. The Binguni Referral Hospital project is expected to significantly improve healthcare outcomes and medical training initiatives in the island.
