Japan has signed a twelve-month partnership agreement with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to support life-saving interventions to prevent maternal and child deaths in the Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps and host communities in Kigoma Region. The project aims to sustain the gains made in maternal health and sexual reproductive health (SRH) interventions in the two camps.
Japan will allocate $359,964 to supply reproductive health products, procure essential medical equipment, and train frontline health workers to ensure the delivery of quality SRH services. The project will benefit over 113,000 individuals, including women, adolescent girls and boys, and first-time young mothers.
The project involves the provision of dignity kits, adolescent sexual reproductive health (ASRH) information and services, and supporting an integrated SRH mobile outreach in the camps and host communities. The partnership with UNFPA and implementing partners like the Tanzania Red Cross Society and Borderless (T) Ltd aims to enhance the health and well-being of women and children in the region
