Tanzania has received an additional 548 million yen (8.9 billion Tanzanian shillings) from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to implement the Kigoma Port rehabilitation project. The additional funding was due to currency depreciation and aims to ensure the successful completion of the project.
The Japanese government has provided a total of 3.27 billion yen (53.35 billion Tanzanian shillings) for the project, which will stimulate economic growth in the region. Kigoma port is a crucial hub for goods destined to Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia, and its rehabilitation will improve regional trade and connectivity.
The amended agreements ensure that the project will be implemented effectively and achieve its intended goals. Both Tanzania and Japan are committed to strengthening their cooperation and promoting mutual economic opportunities.
